We’ve been talking about this severe Arctic outbreak for several days now and it’s about to arrive this evening/overnight.

Thanks to increasing clouds overnight and a southerly breeze, temperatures were about 15-20° milder this morning compared to Saturday morning.  Morning lows ranged in the mid to upper 30s and low 40s.  You’ll likely notice the wind has picked up this morning and it will continue to do so, ahead the approaching Arctic front currently just west of Memphis, Tennessee.  Below are the latest Advisories and Warnings for the Tennessee Valley:

*Wind Advisory is in effect from noon today, through noon Monday for the entire Tennessee Valley, with sustained wind speeds increasing to 15-25 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph or greater in the higher terrain of northeast Alabama and Tennessee.

*Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Jackson, DeKalb and Marshall counties in Alabama and Franklin counties in Tennessee because they have the highest potential to see 1-2″ of snow.

*Wind Chill Warning is in effect for the entire Tennessee Valley from 4:00 am Monday morning through noon Tuesday afternoon, with wind chills expected to range mostly between 0° to -10° in lower elevations and -10° to -20° in higher elevations during that time.

Cloudy and milder conditions are expected this afternoon, before the Arctic front moves through late this afternoon and evening.  A 30° temperature drop from the upper 40s/low to mid 50s to the 20s/30s will occur within about a five-hour time frame between around 5:00 pm, to 10:00 pm this evening.  Due to the drastic temperature drop, any residual moisture lingering on the roadways will quickly freeze as temperatures drop below freezing.  Patchy black ice is possible this evening and overnight, so use extra caution if you have to travel.
