I hope you enjoyed the stretch of warmer weather in the Tennessee Valley. Our streak of 70s ends today. We start this morning on the mild side. Most spots are in the lower to middle 60s. Look to the northwest. Springfield and St. Louis are in the upper 30s to lower 40s. That colder air heads our way this afternoon. We’ll be in the upper 40s by the ride home this evening with a gusty northwest wind.

Just a few showers dot the area this morning. The heaviest rain is to the east of the Tennessee Valley. Only light rain and sprinkles are in the forecast today. Don’t expect anything heavy or long lasting. The next best chance of rain isn’t until the weekend. I would take the umbrella today just in case.

Now to the colder air. A big trough of low pressure takes over the east coast this afternoon into Thursday. That allows colder air to filter in this afternoon into the overnight. We start Thursday morning below freezing and another cold start is in the forecast on Friday. Thankfully this time of year, the really cold air doesn’t stick around very long. Highs rebound into the lower to middle 60s Friday and Saturday. Here is a look at the colder air. The blue and pink show this on the 850mb temperature map.
