TENNESSEE VALLEY (WHNT)– A strong area of high pressure continues its firm grip on the Tennessee Valley as we round out the weekend.
Temperatures will warm quickly into the middle 80s by 9 a.m., and many spots will top 90 by the lunch hour. High moisture content in the atmosphere means it will feel much warmer than the thermometer reads.
Afternoon heat index values will be near 99 at Noon and will rise above 100 degrees for several hours Sunday afternoon; some spots will see peak heat index values near 105 degrees between 2 and 5 p.m. Temperatures will stay very warm through the evening as well, likely not dropping below 90 until after 7 p.m. (unless you are lucky enough to see an afternoon downpour).
Heat advisories cover parts of 15 states as of Sunday morning, and an excessive heat warning is in effect for areas around Kansas City, Missouri.
A heat advisory may be issued for the Tennessee Valley at some point later today or Monday.
