LIMESTONE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) - Monday's high winds and heavy rain caused a lot of damage across the Tennessee Valley.

Winds brought down a tree at Lindsay Lane and Highway 251 in Athens. The tree fell across the roadway and took several power lines down.

Police officers put up a barricade to keep drivers away from the damage. Officers tell us one person drove around the barrier and crashed while trying to go around the tree.

Officers say the passenger in the car had to be taken to Athens-Limestone Hospital.

Some barricades are still up and police ask you to take an alternate route if you come across one on your morning commute.
