DECATUR, Ala. (WHNT) – A Decatur resident is without a place to call home this morning following a fire.

It happened around 11 p.m. Monday on 3rd Avenue.

A neighbor called 911 after noticing the fire. Firefighters arrived to find the home engulfed in flames.

Crews from four fire stations responded.  Unfortunately, the home is considered to be a loss.

The person who lived in the home, identified as Jessie Pridgeon, was not injured. He told firefighters he awoke to smoke, but flames were already in the home as he got out.

Fire Investigator Jason Jones says the fire rekindled Monday morning, but the house was already a total loss.  He also says the cause of the fire is listed as undetermined, and will stay that way. There simply isn’t enough of the building left to determine the cause.
