FAIRVIEW, Ala. (WHNT) – Tonja Grace nominated Myra Sullivan to receive this week’s Pay It Forward. She says Myra is much more than just a good samaritan. Not only does she go out of her way to help others in need, but also is a volunteer worker at both Parkside Elementary School and Fairview High School. She even works in the concession stand when Fairview has ballgames, despite having a bad back and not being able to stand for long periods of time. Tonja says she has seen Myra use her own money to buy food for the kids that didn’t have enough money to eat.

“During the April tornado, she cooked supper for the whole community, everybody joined at her house, she’s always been there for everybody,” said Tonja.  And that includes being a band booster parent.  “She helps all during band camp, she sets out in the tent in 100 degree weather, icing kids down if they get too hot.”

Tonja says Myra does this despite having troubles of her own.

“One year she lost her mom, her sister and then her mother-in-law all within the same year and regardless of how she felt she was still going out and helping everybody else,” Tonja said.

Nicholas Thompson adds this about Myra.

“She loves to bake things for people, she bakes batches of cookies and all that stuff just on a whim, she brought a big, big batch to band camp the very last band practice we had, just for the heck of it,” he said.

But, Nicholas says that’s not all Myra does.

“One time she made me some pork chops, I had told her that I had been craving pork chops and she come back the next day with two grilled pork chops, it was great.”

Maybe Tonja says it best: “Just because that’s Myra, she likes to give, she’s just got a giving heart.”

Of course, Myra says what she does is no big deal. “When I think the kids need something, I try, but there’s a lot of people up here that do more than me.”
