Right off the bat, I’m going to tell you the MiniMax gave me the biggest surprise since we’ve been doing the Deal or Dud franchise.

The MiniMax is a portable power pack that claims to provide a 12v jumpstart to your car, truck, boat, or motorcycle.

It’s about the size of a good sirloin, 11 ounces, and will fit in a purse or glove box easily.

A step back for a moment …

We have tested several items that claim to start your car without jumper cables. Many of them claim to use the cigarette lighters of each car to crank a dead battery.

None of the products ever worked.

When I saw the MiniMax, and saw that it cost, with tax, almost $90, I almost got a little cranky about it.

This was an item that needed pros to test. The people who run the Eddie Preuitt dealership in Hartselle helped me out.

We tested two vehicles with dead batteries.

One was a new vehicle on the lot the mechanics let the battery run down.

The other was an older truck that would need a new battery soon.

Neither would crank.

The MiniMax cranked them both.

I was floored.

Folks at the dealership said the MiniMax even cranked a diesel truck.

By our test, the MiniMax is a “Deal.”
