The ad says “$50-$100 per month to participate in a ‘paid study’ researching social media usage on Facebook.” Seems like easy money!
The “Paid Study” requires you to register with your Facebook username and password. This allows scammers to take over your account and use it to post questionable advertisements that circumvent approved Facebook advertising channels. Participation also requires you to attach a special device to your router – a tiny computer called a Rasberry Pi. This device grants scammers access to your network that also puts you at risk for identity theft.
- Never share login or password information with anyone, no matter how much money is promised to you.
- Don’t attach devices to your computer or router given to you by someone you don’t know.
- Know who you’re doing business with before supplying any personal information. Research the company at BBB.org.
