Huntsville, Ala. - The University of Alabama in Huntsville blew past Barry in the championship game of the NCAA South 2 Regional on Sunday, defeating the Buccaneers 12-2 to advance to the Super Regional at Valdosta State next weekend. UAH improves to 42-15 with the victory, while Barry falls to 34-20.

UAH and VSU will meet in a best-of-three series after the teams won their respective portions of the South Region bracket.

The Chargers pounded out 13 hits in the contest while scoring the most runs for the team in an NCAA tournament game since plating 14 against North Georgia at the 2011 National Championships, and Brianna Sullivan led the way for UAH with four runs, three hits and an RBI while both Cortney McNett and Kathryn Whitlock drove in three runs on the day.

Whitney Gilbert (15-7) was strong yet again, earning her fifth win in her last seven starts as she scattered four hits across five innings while also striking out three. Pitching the final three outs and sealing the contest for the Chargers was Kimberly Jack.

The scoring started for the Chargers in the top of the first inning – UAH was the "away" team due to a coin flip – when Sullivan led the game off with a single up the middle, moved to second on her 35th stolen base of the season, and advanced to third on a productive groundout by Mary Kelley, allowing her to score when McNett doubled into deep center.

The score would remain 1-0 in favor of UAH until the third when McNett would drive in two more runs, plating Sullivan and Kelley on a double into the gap in left center.

The All-American catcher McNett now owns 68 RBI on the season along with 23 doubles.

Adding onto the lead, Sullivan would drive in a run in the fourth to start a three-run inning, and Whitlock knocked in Sullivan and Kelley with a double to left later in the frame to put the Chargers comfortably ahead by a 6-0 score.

After not scoring in the fifth, the Chargers then blew the game wide open with a six-spot on the board in sixth inning.

Whitlock drew a bases-loaded walk to open the scoring in the frame, and Abby MacKay drove in a run on a groundout to third to give UAH an 8-0 lead. A pinch-hit double off the bat of Hannah Woodruff drove in another pair of runs, and Meagan Billingsley and Kellie Johnson both knocked in a run each from the bottom of the Charger lineup to produce a large enough margin that even a pair of runs scored by Barry in the bottom of the inning would not be enough for the Bucs to avoid the run-rule ending.

Alexis Yohe (20-9) wrapped up her season in the circle for Barry and was saddled with the loss.
