HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Senior goaltender John Griggs was outstanding all evening for the University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team, who played the U.S. Under-18 Team to a 1-1 tie on Saturday night at the Von Braun Center.

UAH saw their goaltender rack up 35 saves in the contest and allow the Chargers to skate away with the 1-1 tie against the talented Under-18's. Griggs logged all 65:00 minutes of action and made his most timely saves in the third period, 14 in all in that crucial 20 minutes.

Lasse Uusivirta picked up the lone goal for the Chargers, as the junior found the back of the net at 6:24 in the second period. The goal, assisted by Jeff Vanderlugt andChad Brears, tied the game at 1-1 and that score would go the distance.

Sean Malone scored the only goal for the U.S. Under-18 Team in the first period.

The UAH defense was much better against a team littered with big-time recruits. They held the U-18's to just one goal, compared to the six goals they surrendered on Friday.

Although neither result will count towards the UAH hockey 2012-13 record, the two exhibition contests at the VBC proved that the Charger hockey team is playing much better than their record may indicate.

The Chargers return home next weekend, December 7-8, when they take on Finlandia at the Von Braun Center. The puck drops at 7 p.m. on Friday and 3 p.m. on Saturday.
