Huntsville, Ala. – Coming off of two consecutive appearances in the NCAA Division II Elite Eight, the University of Alabama in Huntsville men’s basketball team will start the season ranked No. 3 in the NABC/Division II Coaches Poll.
The ranking marks the seventh straight poll that UAH has been in the top 10, and the Blue and White have been in the national poll for 30 straight releases of the t0p 25. Only Bellarmine (31 weeks) and West Liberty (36 weeks) have longer streaks.
West Liberty holds down the top spot as it received 12 first-place votes, while Washburn will open the season second. The Chargers received a first-place nod en route to holding down the third position, and UAH is followed by Bellarmine and Metro State.
Saint Leo – a team that appeared at the 2012 NCAA South Regional in the Rocket City – starts the season ranked No. 14, while the only other Gulf South Conference school in the poll is No. 16 Christian Brothers.
Florida Southern and Benedict both received votes.
UAH will first hit the floor when it opens the home slate on Nov. 9 against Point Loma Nazarene before travelling to Manhattan, Kan., to face North Texas in the NIT Season Tip-Off on Nov. 12.
