Huntsville, Ala. - The UAH hockey team took care of business once again versus the Frozen Tide on Sunday afternoon, winning 10-0 at the Von Braun Center.
The result, much like the night before, was a convincing one. The Chargers controlled every facet of the game and for a second straight night didn't allow Alabama a sniff at the goal.
UAH outshot the Frozen Tide by an astonishing 49-6, including a 27-0 total from the first period.
Jack Prince got the rout started in the first period at the 12:33 mark, scoring one of his three goals on the day to give UAH an early 1-0 lead.
Prince led the Three Starts honorary group on Sunday, as he scored a hat trick and added an assist.
It wasn't long thereafter that Doug Reid added another one for the Chargers, as Craig Pierce and Stephen Hickey recorded assists on the goal. Hickey was also honored as a Three Stars performer with his pair of goals and an assist.
Pierce then found the back of the net himself at the 15:12 mark, scoring on a beautifully unassisted goal.
Tyler Kotlarz would add another for UAH with five minutes to go in the first period, giving the host Chargers a 5-0 lead after the first period.
Kotlarz was named number two Three Stars performer, recording two goals and an assist.
After Hickey added two more goals and Prince his third, Kotlarz and Webley rounded out the scoring giving UAH a dominating 10-0 final score.
C.J. Groh got the start between the pipes and the would-be victory, recording five saves and picking up a shutout. Gregg Gruehl sealed the deal shutting down the Frozen Tide in the final period having to only save one shot.
The Chargers had a solid weekend to say the least, outscoring Alabama 22-1 in two games.
The task becomes much more difficult for UAH this coming weekend, but after a strong opening performance the Chargers should be riding a high back to the VBC.
They return to the ice on Friday, October 12, when they welcome Minnesota State-Mankato to the Von Braun Center. The puck drops at 7:00 p.m.
