Florence, Ala. – In recognition of the late Dr. Robert Stephenson’s love and support of the University of North Alabama baseball program, the Stephenson family has made a significant donation to the University that will provide funds to renovate and upgrade the press box and reserved seating area at Mike D. Lane Field.

Dr. Stephenson, who passed away this past March, spent his life in education as a teacher, coach and principal. He served 20 years of his teaching career as a professor in the education department at UNA. In addition to his professional duties with the University, he was a great supporter of the athletic programs, serving two different terms as the Faculty Athletic Representative.

“We are humbled by the generous gift from the Stephenson family,” said UNA Head Baseball Coach Mike Keehn. “Bob was not just a great fan, but a true friend who supported the baseball team and coaching staff.  “This gift is greatly appreciated by the UNA baseball program.”
The Stephenson’s gift will help revitalize a portion of the baseball facility that has seen little change since it was built in 1984.
The interior press box will be renovated with new flooring and counter tops and will have new heating and air conditioning units. There will be new lighting along with expansion of both existing radio booths, and closets will be removed to open up additional space in press box area. The interior walls and ceiling will also be repaired and painted
On the outside of the press box there will be new sliding windows and new siding along the front and sides. A new umpires dressing room will also be created below the press box.
In front of the press box, 69 new fold up stadium seats will be installed.
The renovations are scheduled to be completed prior to the start of the 2013 baseball season.
