Stars Lose Game, Series to Generals

Huntsville, Ala. - (WHNT) The Jackson Generals defeated the Huntsville Stars 7-4 Tuesday night in a rain shortened game at Joe Davis Stadium in Huntsville.

The game was officially called with the Stars batting in the bottom of the sixth inning with one out.  After waiting for nearly an hour to resume play, the rain continued to fall as the umpires decided to call the game.

The Generals won the rubber match against the Stars taking three out of five.  Huntsville has now lossed back-to-back series for only the second time this season.

Jackson took a 1-0 lead on a two-out solo homerun by D.J Peterson in the top of the first inning against Andy Moye.

The Stars tied the game in the bottom of the first against Jackson starter Cam Hobson.  Nick Ramirez delivered a two-out rbi single tying the game at 1-1.

Jackson retook the lead in the top of the second.  Mike Dowd doubled down the right field line and Ketel Marte singled to left field making it 3-1 Generals.

Shea Vucinich brought the Stars within a run in the bottom of the second when he grounded out to second baseman Jack Marder scoring D’Vontrey Richardson.

Jackson took a 4-2 lead in the top of the fourth inning.  With two outs, Marder homered to left for his fifth homerun of the season.

Vucinich tied the game for the Stars in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run homer of his own to left field.  It was Vucinich’s second homer of the season.

Jackson broke the 4-4 tie in the fifth with two runs.  Patrick Kivlehan tripled down the right field line against Moye scoring Marte making it 5-4.  Dan Paolini came up next with an rbi single extending the lead to 6-4.

Moye, who took the loss and fell to 4-2 on the season, exited the game after the fifth inning.  He pitched five innings allowing nine hits on six runs.

Jackson added a run in the top of the sixth against Stars reliever Kevin Shackelford.  Marte added his second rbi of the night on a single scoring Leon Landry.

With Jackson leading 7-4 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Ramirez was at the plate for the Stars when heavy rains came down and the umpires pulled the teams off the field.

Hobson earned the win for the Generals improving to 5-7 on the season.  Hobson went five innings giving up six hits on four runs.

David Colvin picked up his third save of the season after he retired the only batter he faced in the sixth.

The Stars(9-11, 55-35) will have Wednesday off before traveling to Chattanooga, Tennessee to begin a five game series with the Chattanooga Lookouts(8-12, 34-56) the Double-A Affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers Thursday night. The Stars will have RHP Drew Gagnon(5-4, 3.26) will start for Huntsville.  Chattanooga will feature RHP Nick Struck(1-5, 7.38) on the mound.
