Normal, Ala. (WHNT) Gatorade baths are generally reserved for championship moments, but the Senators are making an exception. Sparkman defeated Guntersville 20-15 Thursday at the Alabama A&M 7-on-7 tournament at Louis Crews Stadium. After several disappointing seasons in Harvest, the Senators are making strides towards consistency under second year head coach Chris Cagle.

"There are highs and lows in life and highs and lows within a ballgame, today we had some highs and lows but put it together at the end and won the championship," Cagle said after taking a team photo.

Sparkman senior wide receiver Chazz Garrett was named co-Most Outstanding Payer after catching a pair of touchdowns in the championship game. The 6-foot-5 receiver has visited schools like Auburn and Ole Miss but is still seeking his first collegiate offer. Garrett is a little behind in the recruiting process after suffering a broken collarbone his sophomore season.

Sparkman and every other high school football team in the Tennessee Valley begins practicing "for real" on Monday August 3rd.
