Wednesday, Phil Neel passed away.  He was the creator of Auburn's mascot, Aubie.

Neel was a newspaper artist who first designed Aubie to be an Auburn's media guide back in the 1950s.  Roughly two decades later, it became a mascot and can be found on the sidelines of football games at Jordan-Hare.

Barry Mask was the first person to wear the Aubie costume and he remembers his first conversation with Neel about how to make Aubie come to life.
