Huntsville, Ala. (WHNT) – Most basketball champions in any level get to cut the nets from the hoop.  Alabama high school champions do not get to because of other title games happening in the same arena.

Madison Academy wanted to honor its latest boys basketball champions by having the players cut their own nets in front of the entire student body.  They also hope this is just the beginning to cutting many more nets in the coming years.

“I think it’s only the beginning,” said Josh Langford, Madison Academy guard/forward.  “I really wasn’t thinking about the win, I just went back to the gym and trying to get my team back there.”

“I would just say we have an unbelievable opportunity to have some special years ahead of us,” said Andy Blackston, mustang head coach.  “It’s very important that we stay focused on how these things happen.”

“To be able to fight through the different adversities, hopefully the teams will grow and learn from that in the next coming years,” said Colby Crossfield, Madison Academy forward.
