Florence, Ala. - (al.com)Someone grab a pencil and eraser for the folks at the Alabama High School Athletic Association, because it's time for a new entry in the record book.
Lauderdale County pulled away in the fourth quarter to set the AHSAA girls state mark for consecutive wins at 73 with a 69-48 victory over Central-Florence in the second round of the county tournament tonight at Rogers High.
Athens' girls won 72 straight between 2001-03, capturing two 5A state titles during the run. The AHSAA all-time state record of 73 straight wins, set by the A.G. Parrish boys from 1943-47, could fall if Lauderdale County defeats Lexington in the county championship game at 6:15 p.m. Saturday.
