COLLEGE STATION, Tx. (Al.com) – According to reports from ESPN and TexAgs.com, Heisman Trophy-winning Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel will serve a one half suspension for his involvement with a professional autograph and memorabilia broker. Manziel’s suspension will come versus Texas A&M’s season opening game against Rice.
As first reported by TexAgs reporter Billy Liucci, Manziel’s suspension is likely linked to NCAA bylaw 18.104.22.168 which is not related to accepting money or benefits but deals with allowing one’s name to be used for commercial purposes.
ESPN reporter Brett McMurphy tweeted that the suspension will reportedly “close the book” on the NCAA’s investigation into Manziel’s dealings with various autograph brokers.
When asked about the issue during the SEC coaches teleconference on Wednesday morning, Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin told reporters he could not discuss the issue.
