Jacksonville, Ala. – Jacksonville State and Auburn officials announced today the two teams will not play its scheduled football game 2013 due to a scheduling conflict, but both schools are hopeful they can reschedule the game in the near future.
The two teams were originally scheduled to play on Oct. 19, 2013, but with the addition of Texas A&M and Missouri, the Southeastern Conference changed Auburn’s schedule and the Tigers will face Texas A&M on that date.
“We are certainly disappointed that we were not able to resolve a playing date in 2013 with Auburn,” said JSU Athletics Director Warren Koegel. “Both sides worked extremely hard to try and find a common play date in 2013, but we could not work it out.
“We have been assured by Auburn they want to play us in the future, and we are in discussions to find a date to play once the SEC releases future available play dates to Auburn,” Koegel added. “I realize this is an important game to our coaches, players, fans and alumni, and we look forward to locking down a date as soon as possible.”
Jacksonville State will receive the football guarantee per the original contract for the 2013 football game from Auburn, and the first date JSU has available to schedule Auburn is 2016.
Football Championship Subdivision schools have the opportunity to play 12 games in the 2013 and 2014 seasons, and Koegel said the University is working with several schools to fill the remaining games to complete the Gamecocks’ 2013 football schedule.
JSU has already announced a game with Georgia State on Sept. 21, 2013, at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.
