Huntsville, Ala. – The Milwaukee Brewers and Huntsville Stars have made a few roster moves prior to tonight’s series opener against the Chattanooga Lookouts. RHPs Ariel Pena and Johnny Hellweg and shortstop Jean Segura have all been assigned to Huntsville and will be active for tonight’s game. Shortstop Tommy Manzella was released from the organization. LHP Philippe Valiquette has been placed on the disabled list, retroactive to July 26.

Hellweg, Pena and Segura were all acquired in a trade with the Los Angeles Angels for pitcher Zack Greinke. Hellweg was 5-10 with a 3.38 ERA (119.2ip/45er) in 21 starts for the Angels’ double-A team the Arkansas Travelers. He was named the Texas League Pitcher of the Week on July 16. Pena was 6-6 with a 2.99 ERA (114.1ip/38er) in 19 starts for the Travelers. The 23-year-old struck out 111 batters and only allowed 42 walks. He was named a Texas League Mid-Season All-Star this year. Segura was hitting .294 in 94 games for the Double-A Travelers before making his Major League debut on July 24 with the Angels. He did not record a hit in three at-bats in his time with the Angels.

In 62 games with the Stars this season, Manzella was batting .252 (55-for-218) with seven doubles and a home run. The Brewers signed Manzella to a minor league deal back on May 8.

With these moves, the Stars active roster sits at 25, the Southern League limit.
