Decatur, Ala. – (WHNT) There wasn’t much expected of the Black bears wresting team this season and that’s not a knock on those who wear orange and black. Austin was entering just it’s second year of varsity wrestling and several athletes were only picking up the sport for the first time. A few months later, five members of the team are heading to the state tournament.

The odds are stacked against Austin this week, but head coach Jason Simmons has his team equipped with the right attitude. “Anything can happen at state so we’re just going to go over there and try to wrestle each match individually. If you are worried about a match down the road you might miss out on the match you are in.”

Here is a list of the five Black Bears and their weight class.

Kevin Turner – 170 lb

Lane Deen – 220 lb

Desmond Dempsey – 126 lb

Deondre Bass – Heavyweight

T.C. Lowe – 195 lb
