Auburn – The Auburn Tigers held their first scrimmage in Jordan-Hare Stadium Saturday morning, running 85 plays in a 90-minute practice session. The Tigers returned to the practice field Saturday evening at the Auburn Athletics Complex for a 90-minute workout in shells.
“We ran about 85 plays and went live in special teams,” Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said after the morning scrimmage. “I think we learned a lot, and it was hot, which is a good thing. How we respond to good things and how we respond to adversity is a great learning tool.
“I think we’re improving. We’ve been in evaluation mode, giving them all a chance, but our goal was to narrow things down at all positions after this scrimmage.”
Sunday the Tigers will hold a mid-day workout before Auburn Fan Day presented by Golden Flake Snack Foods at Auburn Arena from 3:30-5:30 p.m. The event is free of charge. Fan Day gives Tiger fans a unique opportunity to interact with their favorite players and coaches. Doors will open at approximately 3 p.m. to allow fans to begin getting in line for autographs.
Members of the Auburn football team and football head coach Gus Malzahn, along with the Auburn cheerleaders, Tiger Paws, and the soccer and volleyball teams will be available for autographs. Fans can also get their photo taken with Aubie, but Aubie will not sign autographs during this event. Posters and schedule cards will be provided at no charge.
Televisions at the Arena will be tuned in to the PGA Championship, giving all Tiger fans an opportunity to share in watching Auburn alum Jason Dufner in the final round.
Auburn’s season opener is Saturday, August 31, at Jordan-Hare Stadium versus Washington State in a 6 p.m. Central kickoff.
