Tuscaloosa, Ala. – The top-ranked football team returned back to the Thomas-Drew Practice Fields Monday as it finished up corrections from the 21-17 victory over No. 5 LSU this weekend and got preparations under way for this Saturday’s game against No. 15 Texas A&M.

Alabama returns home to face their third-straight top-15 opponent. This Saturday, SEC newcomer Texas A&M will travel to the Capstone for a pivotal SEC West matchup. Freshman quarterback Johnny Manziel poses a tough test for the Alabama defense, averaging over 280 yards through the air and over 100 yards on the ground per game.

“He can throw it, he’s not great big in stature or anything like that, he’s extremely quick, he’s very instinctive – has a unique ability to extend plays and seems to know when to take-off and run it,” Alabama head coach Nick Saban said. “He scrambles and makes plays throwing the ball down the field. This is a unique guy in terms of his play-making ability, his size, quickness and speed and ability to make people miss in space.”

Earlier in the day, senior kicker Jeremy Shelley was named one of 20 semifinalists for the Lou Groza National Collegiate Place-Kicker Award, the Palm Beach County Sports Commission announced. Given to the nation’s top place-kicker annually, the Lou Groza Award will be presented to the winner at the Home Depot ESPN College Football Awards Show on Dec. 6.

Shelley is the only kicker in the nation to be perfect on kicks this year, going 43-for-43 on extra points, and nine-for-nine on field goals.

Saturday’s game will be nationally televised on WHNT News 19 at 2:30 p.m. from Bryant-Denny Stadium, with Verne Lundquist and Gary Danielson making the call and Tracy Wolfson reporting for the sidelines.
