The third-ranked LSU Tigers completed the three-game Southeastern Conference series sweep of the Alabama Crimson Tide with a 5-1 victory on Sunday from Alex Box Stadium.

Alabama (13-23, 4-11 SEC) collected just five hits against four LSU pitchers. Jared Reaves was 1-for-3 with a first inning solo home run to account for the Tide’s only run of the game. Hunter Gregory was 2-for-4, Andrew Miller was 1-for-3 and Cameron Carlisle added a ninth inning single to finish the day 1-for-4.

UA starting pitcher Jon Keller (1-2) took the loss, allowing four earned runs on six hits with two walks and a strikeout in 5.0 innings. LSU (30-7, 11-4 SEC) starter Aaron Nola improved to 5-1 after holding the Tide to one run on three hits with five strikeouts in 5.0 innings of work. The Tigers’ bullpen allowed two hits and held the Tide scoreless in four innings.

LSU finished the day with nine hits, as Arby Fields led the Tigers with a 3-for-4 performance. JaCoby Jones and Raph Rhymes had two hits each.

Alabama took a 1-0 lead when Reaves hit his third home run of the season with two outs in the first inning. LSU answered in the bottom of the inning, scoring once on three singles to even the game at 1-1 after one.

LSU took a 4-1 lead after scoring three runs on two hits in the second inning. After a double by Jones plated the first run, Fields followed with a two-run double. Alabama had a chance to chip away at the deficit in the third, but after loading the bases with one out, but back-to-back pop outs by Reaves and Moore ended the threat.

The Tigers added a run in the seventh inning without hitting a ball out of the infield. Jones singled to the hole at short, stole second, advanced to third on a ground out, then scored on a passed ball to make the score 5-1 in favor of the home team.

Alabama returns home on Tuesday against Mississippi Valley State, in the first of two games against the Delta Devils. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. CT from Sewell-Thomas Stadium.
