(WHNT/CNN) - There were more than 300 million reasons to play Powerball on a day when the jackpot was the fourth highest on record.

And, someone in Michigan may have the biggest smile very soon.  The winning ticket for the estimated $337 million Powerball jackpot was purchased at a Sunoco gas station in Lapeer, Michigan, said Andi Brancato, a spokesman for the Michigan lottery.

The lucky person has not yet been identified. The winning numbers were 6, 27, 46, 51, 56 and the Powerball is 21.

The $337 million jackpot was the seventh-largest ever in America and the third-largest for Powerball, Brancato said.

Eight other tickets won the $1 million Match 5 prize. Two of those tickets were bought in Indiana, and the others in Kansas, Kentucky, New Jersey, New Mexico, Pennsylvania and Virginia, lottery officials said.

Alabama does not have a lottery, but that didn't stop hundreds of Alabamians from heading just across the state line in Tennessee to play on Wednesday. The "Magic Mile" had packed parking lots and long lines with every single person believing they purchased that lucky winning ticket.

Employees said they were working overtime to keep up with the demand.
