MCCO, Madison Arts Council to celebrate 100th Anniversary of Gustav Holst’s “The Planets”

MADISON, Ala. - This Sunday, the Madison City Community Orchestra and the Madison Arts Council will celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Gustav Holst's "The Planets."

The MCCO will perform this orchestral suite on Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. at 127 Church Street, Madison, AL 35758.

The groups will also host an art competition to help showcase the event.

Requirements for artwork submission:
-Submit your interpretation of the astrological meaning of the planets as defined by Holst for one or more of the movements
-Medium can be painting or drawing on poster, canvas (no larger than 16X20), sculpture or others
-There are 4 age categories:
Elementary, Junior High, High School and Adult.
-1st, 2nd and 3rd Place Cash Prizes will be awarded in each category with an overall grand prize awarded.
-Entry deadline is 30 September 2016 and should be submitted to MCCO at 783 Seina Vista Dr Madison Al 35758
-All entries will be displayed at the MCCO Concert 30 October being held at Madison United Methodist Church 127 Church Street Madison Al 35758
-Winners will be announced at the concert.

You can also bid in silent auction on donated pieces of art that will help foster the continuation of orchestral and other mediums of art. Proceeds will be split between the MCCO and the Madison Arts Council.
