Armed Forces Week is coming up August 3rd through the 9th and a host of  events planned.

Monday, August 4th, at 9:00 a.m., the Armed Forces Week proclamation will be signed by numerous government and military dignitaries. This event will be held at the downtown Huntsville/Madison County Veterans Memorial on Monroe Street near Washington Street. (The Chamber auditorium at 225 Church Street is the rain site.)

At 6:30 p.m. Monday, the Army Materiel Command will perform in Big Spring Park for Concerts in the Park. Weather-permitting, there will be a fireworks display at 9 p.m. This event is free of charge.

The Soldier Show will be held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 5th, and Wednesday, August 6th, in the Von Braun Concert Hall. Tickets for both shows are available at the MWR Ticket Office and the Chamber.

At 11:15 a.m. Wednesday, there will be an Armed Forces Celebration Salute Luncheon featuring AMC’s Gen. Dennis Via in the Von Braun North Hall. Attendees can enjoy a Soldier Show teaser prior to that night’s performance. Pre-registration is required.

Thursday, August 7th, at 10:00 a.m., a special awards program will be held in honor of Purple Heart Day at the downtown Huntsville/Madison County Veterans Memorial. The community is invited to acknowledge these men and women in uniform for the sacrifices that they have made.

On Friday, August 8th, at 8:00 a.m., the “Iron Mike Golf Tournament” is being sponsored by AUSA Redstone at The Links Course on Redstone.

Armed Forces Week softball games will be held Friday at the Huntsville Metro Kiwanis Sportsplex Field #2 at 3590 Patton Road.
