DECATUR, Ala. – An Alabama boy whose parents were killed in a tornado this month has received donations including the promise free college tuition.
Town Creek Mayor Mike Parker said the Christmas holiday was rather difficult to celebrate this year without feeling for those hurt by the tornado earlier in the month, especially Landen Godsey.
State Sen. Garlan Gudger Jr. said Wallace State Community College in Hanceville has offered two years of tuition to 8-year-old Godsey, who remains hospitalized.
He said the University of Alabama System Foundation also will help fund Godsey’s education, and about $60,000 has been raised for his family and other storm victims.
The mayor said its important he has something to look forward to when he fully recovers.
The boy’s parents died when a tornado struck their double-wide mobile home on Dec. 16.
“It takes a village to raise a child,” added Parker. “Now he’s got this village to depend on.”
