FRANKLIN COUNTY, Tenn. (WHNT) - The Franklin County, Tennessee Sheriff's Department has released the identity of the woman whose body was found burned on the side of a road Monday morning.
According to a news release, the victim is 24-year-old Erika Megan Sharpton. She was from Tullahoma, Tennessee. The case has been ruled a homicide.
Early Monday morning, a driver noticed a grass fire next to Awalt Road, right before a bridge that goes over Tim's Ford Lake. The driver turned around to check it out, and discovered a partially burned corpse.
Later in the day, someone spotted a red 1995 Ford Mustang that had been reported stolen, which may be connected to the woman’s death. It was found outside of Tullahoma. No one was inside. Deputies transported it to a facility to process it for possible evidence.
