HARVEST, Ala. (WHNT) – The Alabama Department of Corrections says the Limestone Correctional Facility has been running on backup power since an outage on Tuesday.
Several contractors are working to restore power. The Alabama Emergency Management Agency is providing emergency lighting and generators at the facility.
Officials say the building lost power on Tuesday during an electrical storm.
Authorities say the facility is secure, inmates have been cooperative and correctional staff are still able to deliver daily services such as meal and medical care.
Because of the power outage, officials have cancelled weekend visitation to the facility. The Alabama Department of Corrections says visitation will resume as soon as power is restored.
