TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Tuscaloosa Police Department has confirmed one of its officers was involved in a shooting Tuesday night. That’s according to Birmingham CBS affiliate WIAT.
Tuscaloosa Police Chief Steve Anderson says two officers were called to the Aspen Village Apartments just before 10:00 p.m. They were responding to calls of a robbery and sexual assault.
The officers were able to located the suspected criminal, who reportedly pulled out a gun and started shooting.
“[The suspect] drew a weapon and fired at the officers. The officers returned fire, striking him at least twice,” Chief Anderson said. The person ran to a nearby apartment complex where he was later found.
“None of the officers were hurt in this incident, they both acted heroically in the face of what they were dealing with,” Anderson said. “They did a great job responding out here quickly locating the suspect after hearing the second disturbance and encountering him and engaging him.”
The State Bureau of Investigation is helping with the investigation. There are multiple crime scenes involved in this case.
