(CNN) — A Transportation Security Administration agent was attacked by a person with a machete at Louis Armstrong International Airport in New Orleans on Friday night, Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand said.
A law enforcement officer shot the suspect three times. The suspect was taken to a hospital, where authorities said he was unresponsive.
The TSA agent suffered a cut to the arm, Normand said.
Airport spokeswoman Michelle Wilcut says the shooting happened at a security checkpoint at Concourse B. She says the site has been secured.
Wilcut also said authorities have shut down Concourse B, but the rest of the airport remains open.
