BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WHNT) – The Auburn football team’s A-Day game is slated to kickoff Saturday, April 9, 2016, at 3:00 p.m. But Tiger fans in north Alabama making the trek to the Plains should expect some major traffic delays on Interstate 65 southbound.

The Alabama Department of Transportation will be working on the bridge project at the I-59/20 interchange, which will cause southbound traffic on I-65 to be reduced to one lane. The work is slated to begin Friday at 7:00 p.m. and last until early Monday morning.

The recommended alternate route is US Highway 31 southbound via Fieldstown Road (exit 271), Walker Chapel Road (exit 267) or Finley Boulevard (exit 262B). Signs will be installed and message boards will be posted on the interstate giving directions on how to exit the interstate if traffic is backed up.

If your usual route to Auburn is to take 65 to 280, you can take 31 south until it meets up with 280.

If you typically go 65 to 85, just stay on 31 south until it meets back up with 65.

If you happen to be in the eastern part of the region, you can avoid 65 altogether and take US 431 S to AL 77 S to AL 21 S and then pick up US 280 E in Sylacauga.

Alabama fans, this work will affect you, too, for next Saturday’s A-Day game in Tuscaloosa.
