Train hits SUV in Lawrence County

COURTLAND, Ala. (WHNT)- Sunday afternoon a red SUV was hit by a train in Lawrence County.

Courtland Police say the SUV was traveling southbound on Alabama Street. The driver tried to cross the railroad track but her SUV died on the tracks. The two adult females and two teens jumped out of the SUV before the train hit.

The male teen ran to his nearby home to call police and the female teen ran to safety.

The two adult females ran to a ditch along the railroad tracks. When the train struck the SUV it caused it to roll over on the two women. One of the females was flown to Huntsville Hospital via Air Evac. The other female adult was taken to Decatur Hospital by ambulance.
