Threads of Honor quilt unveiled in Athens, more than 600 veterans honored in stitches

ATHENS, Ala. – A special quilt has been unveiled in Athens, and the Mayor’s Office honored the quilters who crafted the artwork.

Marlene Isom had the idea for the Threads of Honor Quilt which honors veterans and raised funds for the expansion of the Alabama Veterans Museum and Archives.

More than 600 names of veterans are on the quilt, and donations to include those names raised more than $40,000.

Roughly 170 people attended the unveiling at the museum, where the quilt will be on permanent display.
