HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The business of saving animals is one that never ends. In the last two months A New Leash on Life has purchased, and now opened, its third location.

The new location is at 5588 Highway 431 in Brownsboro, and it’s hard to miss. Thanks to volunteers from Randolph the building is a bright green color so you will know you’ve arrived!

"Everyone kept driving by and not seeing it and missing it," said A New Leash On Life Volunteer Coordinator, Karen Smith. "They were so cute! Now all we have to say is we are in the green building and people know where we are."

It's a coat of paint and another step towards Tails and Retails establishing themselves in the community. The building serves two purposes, a thrift store and an adoption area.

"We've come a long way but we have a long way to go,” said Smith.

Doggy doors have been made in the adoption center and outside there is fencing for dogs to safely play.  While adoptions are happening now, there's still more to be done.

"We will have three rooms for dogs then kittens will be up front," explained Smith.

In the thrift store every sale goes back to the animals' vet bills and care, allowing A New Leash to continue their mission.

"We can’t just walk through Huntsville Animal Shelter and see all the dogs and cats there and not do something about it," said Smith.

Last year the organization saved 1,600 pets.  They are already off to a tail wagging start in their new green building thanks to the many people who are getting their paws dirty to help!

"I think how a community takes care of their animals says a lot about the community of people," said Smith.

The new location is still in need of donations and funding to pay for their fencing. The bright green paint job will be completed in the coming weeks!
