A local woman is doing a signing for a children's book that just launched in May.

The Adventures of Sugarman the Pony: A Messenger of Love, by Brenda W. Powell is, what she calls "more than just another children's book" with an inspiring message for readers. The lovable pony, Sugarman, discovers what it means to walk in love when he teams up with his barnyard friends to bring children life lessons through his fun adventures. This is a Christian book centered around the Bible verse Ephesians 5:2, which reads "And walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God."

Here's a quick synopsis about this story:

"As the sun slowly rises high above Morning Glory Farm, a mother horse gives birth to her long-awaited foal named Sugarman. Excited to welcome the newborn into the world, the colorful assortment of barnyard characters crowds into the barn to greet the white, fluffy foal. Sugarman meets a variety of new friends, such as Rudy the rooster-in-training, Big Red the surly bull, and Tippy the mouse.

But soon, they discover a mysterious mark on Sugarman’s side; a mark like no other! What can it be and what does it mean? Will Sugarman have the courage to walk in his purpose even if it means taking a stand against an angry bull? Join Sugarman as he learns the meaning of friendship, forgiveness, and how to be God’s special messenger of love. "

This book has affected children all over the world, even going out to Nicaragua on a mission trip. A version of the story translated into Spanish was a big hit among children and adults in that country.

Powell will be at A Nurturing Moment on Saturday, July 18, from 11-2 for a book signing. You can purchase the book there for $18.99, and a portion of all the proceeds from her book's success is donated to various missions and organizations. Powell said one of the main reasons she started this project was to give back to the children the book is written for.
