WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ala. – A South Alabama pastor has been taken to jail after authorities say he abused at least six underage boys over the course of several years.

Tommy Joe Newberry was arrested Wednesday on charges of sodomy and sexual abuse according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

Newberry is the pastor at Red Creek Church of God near the Alabama/Mississippi state line.

Authorities believe the sexual abuse occurred over the course of several years, starting as early as 2003.

Newberry is accused of sexually abusing boys by touching them over and underneath their clothing.
