(WHNT) – Tuesday afternoon, social media users reported widespread cell network outages across the country.
The three main carriers, Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile all appear to be experiencing concentrated technical difficulties in the Tennessee Valley area.
Other major metropolitan areas are experiencing similar situations.
We’ve reached out to the carriers for more information.
- AT&T’s Director of Communications, Lance Skelly, says some customers across parts of the southeast are “experiencing wireline and wireless service issues. We are investigating the cause and working as quickly as possible to restore service.”
- Verizon Wireless spokesperson Kate Jay says a connectivity issue is causing a service interruption. Jay says Verizon’s engineers are aware of the issue and are working with vendor partners to resolve this issue quickly. However, there’s no estimated time of resolution yet.
- T-Mobile says they have a server down and are working to resolve the issue.
T-Mobile’s Twitter help account has been very active, tweeting to people that they are aware of the outage and are working to get technicians out to problem areas.

Bob Rutledge with NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center says the outage is not being caused by a solar storm, as some have theorized.
