FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) - Police are investigating a woman's death that occurred at City Lodge in Florence.

Florence police have confirmed that 54-year-old Lula Teresa Addison from Florence was found dead at the City Lodge.

After preliminary autopsy results came in Tuesday morning, police ruled her death a homicide.

The hotel is located on South Court Street.

Police say a housekeeper noticed a strong odor from one of the rooms, and found the woman's body Monday morning.  It's not clear yet how the person died.

To help in the death investigation, Florence Police detectives collected evidence from the scene, including a bed frame and mattress.

“What we do is take everything we can.  We never know what we`ll need later on, if this turns into a homicide, that way we have collected, and properly take care of everything with evidence as best we can,” said Florence Police investigator, Cliff Billingsley.

Police say they did not see any obvious wounds on the woman's body, however because time had passed since investigators believe the woman died, detectives say, the victim's condition had deteriorated.  According to detectives, it was where they found the victim that raised red flags.

"They saw the suspicious location of the body and that started the investigation into the death,” said Billingsley.

According to detectives, the time lapse in discovering the victim makes the investigation more difficult, when determining a cause of death.

Police say forensic results from a medical examiner, will assist in the investigation.

Detectives say they are trying to piece together a more solid time frame of events by talking to friends and family of the victim.
