Heavy winds and rain did damage throughout the Shoals late Sunday night into Monday morning.  The storm tore down trees all across Sheffield.

Storm damage even forced one family out of their home.

“Here's where it all happened,” said Shamaine Abernathy as she walks through her bedroom.  She got a rude awakening when a large tree came crashing down on top of her home.

“Boom, I just heard it coming through the window,” said Abernathy.

Outside it’s a mangled mess of tree branches and debris.  An uprooted tree is the culprit for the damage.

“It just looks a mess in there,” said Abernathy.  “Doors down, ceilings down, kitchen's messed up.”

As the storm unleashed its fury, Abernathy slept just feet away  Her child slept through the storm in the next room.  Both survived the storm without a scratch.

“I don't put it as luck, I put is as blessed, because another three, four more feet I'd probably be dead,” said Abernathy.

Abernathy rented the home, but with the extensive damage, she and her family must find somewhere else to live.  Abernathy says as she looks for that new place to stay, she will now always keep an eye on the weather.

“Oh yes Lord, I will never ignore those warning signs again, I'm telling you, I will never,” said Abernathy.

A lesson learned for this family, as they see firsthand, the strength of a storm.
