LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – The State Bureau of Investigation is leading law enforcement in a criminal investigation unfolding Friday night in Rogersville.

Rogersville Police Chief Terry Holden identified the victim as 58-year-old Connie Ridgeway.

Officials were called to the scene at about 5 p.m. Witnesses say they heard yelling around 4:30 but heard no shots fired.

The chief says a neighbor found her inside her residence in Meadowland Apartments on Prince Drive, near Lauderdale County High School.

Police were called after neighbor went to check on her and found her apartment door slightly open. Police say she could see the woman lying in the living room floor.

Police arrived on scene around 6:30 in the evening. They say the victim was stabbed.

The State Bureau of Investigation is heading up the investigation with the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office assisting. The chief says there is no motive or person of interest at this time.

Holden says, “This was a shock to the community, it’s a very quiet living area.”
