Shoals man charged with 32 counts of animal cruelty; horses were starving or dead

LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – A Shoals man has been charged with 32 counts of animal cruelty.

Investigators say they found 16 dead horses on his property and another 16 barely alive.  Of those, two had to be put down.

The man arrested is Horace Mearl White, 65.

Prosecutors say someone reported the animals’ condition to the Lauderdale County District Attorney’s Office on Friday.  The animals were found on a farm off County Road 81 near the Central community.

White was arrested Monday and booked in the Lauderdale County Detention Center.
