COLBERT COUNTY, Ala. – A roof at a marina in Colbert County collapsed Friday due to the weight of snow.

According to the Colbert County EMA, at least 12 boats are under the collapsed roof at Steenson Hollow Marina by the Tennessee River in Muscle Shoals.

Emergency crews responded to the scene, including the Muscle Shoals Fire Department, which deployed booms to contain any possible chemical leakage. Volunteer fire crews and Colbert County Emergency Management Agency crews responded.

News 19 spoke with Sammy McIntyre a boat owner from Waterloo whose wife was actually living on their boat this week to be closer to work.

“She just left yesterday. She’s been staying out here every night. I just thank God she wasn’t over here, that’s the only thing I can do.” said McIntyre.

A second awning was also damaged by the weight of the snow but did not completely collapse.

The Marina’s owner says no one else was in any of the boats or standing under the awning at the time of the collapse.
