COLBERT COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – The Democratic runoff for a seat on the Colbert County school board now has a winner.

Candidates Ricky Saint and Brad Counce tied the first time around. But after an investigation, the Colbert County Probate Judge discovered poll workers gave some voters incorrect ballots.

It was close again Tuesday night, but it wasn’t a tie.  Saint edged Counce by less than two dozen votes. Saint had a total of 363 votes and Counce had 344 votes.

“Obviously he did an awesome job. You know, we’ve known each other for years. He was my sixth grade teacher. So it was a good clean campaign,” said Counce.

Ricky Saint is looking forward to November’s race. He will take on Republican Walter Bennett in November’s election.

“This was much more difficult than I thought it would be. But it’s just half time. You know we have the second half to play. We have a Republican opponent in November. He’s a very fine man. He’s a good man,” said Saint.
