Colbert County chase ends in crash

Colbert County, Ala. (WHNT)- Colbert County Sheriff Ronnie May confirmed there was a police chase resulting in an accident Saturday night.

The accident happened Saturday at 7:19 p.m. when a Colbert County deputy attempted to pull over a white Honda Civic for a traffic violation.

The officer ran the license plate to find the car was reported stolen in Georgia.  Police officers in Cherokee laid down a spike strip and the driver avoided the strip.  Authorities laid down a second strip and the vehicle crashed.

Sheriff May identified the female passenger as 18-year-old Ashlei Brooke Cayton.  She was thrown from the vehicle and air-lifted to Huntsville Hospital.
The driver, 23-year-old Alfred Antwan Armstead was taken to Helen Keller Hospital.  After being released from the hospital, Armstead was taken into custody.

May says Armstead is wanted in Georgia on charges.  He says Cayton is listed in satisfactory condition and is wanted in Florida on multiple charges.
