FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) - A Lauderdale County man convicted of assaulting a coach at Rogers School earlier this year, appeared in court Thursday morning for sentencing.

In early November, ED Jenkins Jr. was found guilty of second degree assault.

Prosecutors say surveillance video at Rogers School showed Jenkins attacking a gym teacher for allegedly yelling at Jenkins’s son.

During sentencing, Jenkins stood and apologized to the coach for the assault.

Despite the apology, Judge Mike Jones sentenced Jenkins to a split sentence of 60-months.

The judge said Jenkins will spend at least one year in prison for the attack.

The attorney representing Ed Jenkins, has filed an oral appeal of the conviction and is asking for a bond be set until the appeal can be decided upon.
