FLORENCE, Ala. – Florence police said a suspect they were negotiating with after finding someone dead at a home Monday is dead.
Police say the suspect was killed after firing at officers.
Police said officers found a man dead at a home in the 400 block of Plum Street after officers answered a shooting call Monday.
Officers said they searched the area and found an armed man in a wood-lined area near the home around 11 a.m. After hours of negotiation, police said the man fired at them, and officers had to shoot and kill him.
“Our officers for approximately four hours negotiated with the suspect, who was armed,” Florence Police Chief Ron Tyler said. “He was concealing himself and he was threatening self-harm. Our officers showed a great deal of restraint for four hours as they negotiated with this individual.”
Neither the suspect nor the victim had been identified as of Monday afternoon.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is investigating.
