FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) – It appears a new 280-bed hospital will be built in Florence after approval by the State Certificate of Need Board today in Montgomery.

The board voted unanimously to approve the hospital which will replace the aging Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital now owned by Regional Care.

In May, an administrative law judge recommended the board only approve a 233-bed facility and no cancer center.

The board has decided to table the cancer center’s future for 45 days to allow objecting parties of the center and Regional Care to try and work out a compromise.
